City report: police department

Some questions about how Shot Spotter was used, and how it fed into officers going door-to-door, which I missed.

Sandra

Things her office is working on:

Councilmember Mitch Brown in Public Safety says they hear a lot of noise complaints, from bars and construction and bands, and there will be a public hearing for that.

The city is dealing with a proliferation of car dealerships, and will be discussing revisions to code and licensing. They'll be working with the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.

Sarah Pomery, City Porsecutor's office zone attorney

She will no longer be the zone attorney for Linden, starting in February. There's a mixup in the office. She'll be the person for hotels and liquor. Chastity Barham will take her place as the Linden Zone Attorney.

Oakland Park Bar and Grill update: the objection to the liquor permit was successful; the bar has no liquor permit. Undercover cops have continued investigating the bar, and have seen some liquor sales in the bar after the liquor permit lapsed. In the present phase of the appeals, they're not allowed to sell liquor.

Beth Kinney Fairman, Dept of Neighborhoods

Specifically regarding car dealers along Cleveland Avenue: the districts are zoned commercial, so it's legal to operate car dealerships to operate there. The current best way to regulate that proliferation is to go after them with code enforcement, for things like unpaved parking lots or unpermitted construction. That enforcement process can take up to two years.

Martin Luther King Day event at a school this weekend.

There's a program for free uni for students under the age of 18.

Saturday the 18th:

Next demolitions:

End of February, they'll be announcing a developer for the Cleveland-Myrtle section, looking for a developer to do senior housing and single-family homes.

South on Cleveland Avenue, the old Eagle Market will be rehabbed in the next few weeks.

David Harrison, President of Columbus State Community College

Talked about Issue 21, a bond issue on the March 17 ballot, and asked that people vote for it. The liability to taxpayers would be 0.65 mills per dollar of assessed value, if the college is not able to pay off its bonds.

Committee reports:

Lucy McMahon has resigned, and will be taking a position with the City. This opens a Resident seat on the Commission, and on the Bylaws Subcommittee.

Zoning

Zoning application for 2860 Cleveland is tabled until February or March, pending response from the applicant's architect.

The demolition permit for 2400 Linden Avenue is approved.

Code enforcement

Working on some car lots.

Semi lot on Oakland Park is a mess; the commission and Department of Neighborhoods are working with Code Enforcement.

Habitat for Humanity

Habitat dedicated new houses last week, link TKTK. There's additional work going on on Gennessee.

Habitat has a Project Playhouse program offering low-cost playhouses for children.

Habitat will pause passing out applications in February for their new homeownership program, which has a ful queue.

For the good of the order:

There's been a rash of dog poisoning in Kenmore Park; there was a local news story this evening.

Smart Columbus sent out an email: They're offering ambassador training at St. Stephen's this Saturday beginning at 11, regarding the self-driving shuttles.

The Department of Neighborhoods has a records retention policy that applies to Area Commissions, which will be discussed during the training meetings that Dept of Neighborhoods is running as a result of the 3109 changes. The training schedule will be released next Tuesday, probably.
